All I need in this life of sin, is me and my GFS!

 As we approach one WHOLE year of being unable to be around our loved ones, the 13th of February presents a rare reason for us to smile, as Galentines Day marks one of the most precious things in life – female friendship, companionship, and community. Although this year may be different (i.e. we can’t be getting lit at the bottomless brunch), we can all still find the time to appreciate the importance of platonic love and blast Saweetie – Best Friend in our living rooms all day long.

Although we can’t be with our besties physically, this Saturday is the perfect time to reminisce over; drunk pep talks in the club queues, those 6ams in a random kitchen, walks in the sun to the beer garden, the heartbreak-tear-mascara-stained sleeves, or even just those times you sat in comfortable silence together, because you’re just THAT close. Right, let’s stop because I am CRYING.

Whilst the world around us focuses on one made-up holiday on the 14th - we bad b*tches shift our attention to a day of ‘Ladies celebrating Ladies’, imagined by Parks and Recreation’s Leslie Knope, as a tribute to her closest girlfriends! In the episode Leslie explains, “What’s Galentine’s Day? It’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style”, and guess what? It stuck!

 But aside from showering those closest to you with love and affection, how can we translate this into supporting other ladies in the creative industry?

Having a good community and being surrounded by a positive support system is invaluable for personal development, career development and just all-round mental wellness. But as we are all well aware, despite the countless positives of the creative lifestyle, it often comes with the price of loneliness. As weekends upon weekends pass without the opportunity for networking with other likeminded gals, we must all make the collective decision to use Galentines as a time to show other gals in the industry some digital love & support.
