The end of a toxic hustle culture we never wanted!

It’s time to spill the tea on this toxic phenomenon.

What a year it has been!! We've all realised that rest and relaxation must be vital parts of our work week and that we can no longer go on working ourselves to the bone. But what are we going to do about it post-pandemic? With life going "back to normal" have we really prepared ourselves for the inevitable grind our employers are going to steer us back towards.

The point of this blog, written back in November, couldn't be more neccassary than right at this moment.

We’ve all got that one #bossbabe we follow on social media, who constantly celebrates long working hours and lack of sleep, claiming that is the secret to their success. And we call this bullshit, Hustle Culture

Hustle Culture is the crazy idea of constantly working and devoting all your time and energy to getting that coin; usually praising a lack of sleep, missed meals and no time spent doing anything actually fun. The glorification of being a workaholic has become all too common in the business world. We must always “hustle harder”, and if we’re not struggling or exhausted then we just aren’t working hard enough. No matter how Instagram wants to spin it, over-working yourself will be detrimental to your mental health, and your work will always suffer as a consequence.

Why are young, female creatives pretending to LOVE work so much? We all have dream jobs but working 23 hours a day will not make anyone happy. So, it is time to cut the crap. Following your passion does not mean sacrificing everything else for it, and success does not always have to come in the form of money or career progression. Your ultimate goal should be to be happy, so STOP living to work.

It’s time to say goodbye to the hustle fetishism of the past few years and say hey to bringing your mental health and self-care to the forefront. Being a total girl boss is about taking care of yourself, your passion, your determination and YOUR TALENT! It is not about how many hours you force yourself to do.

I promise you that it is cool to prioritise sleep, take care of your mind and eat healthily. If you do not fuel your body with things that make you feel good, you will never reach your true potential. Who wants a life that is all work and no play anyway? Not me that’s for sure. There is no need to put your health at risk for the sake of becoming an entrepreneur.

So, as you have probably guessed, us at Lethally Her are ditching ‘Hustle Culture’ and focusing on mental, physical and financial wellness over the next year, as we look toward a brighter finish to the year. 2022 will call for innovation; a new way to achieve our goals, in a healthy way, and we’re here to help.
